Founding Engineer

Full-timeBoulder, ColoradoSystems · Robotics
$120,000 – $160,000 / year

About the role

As a founding engineer, you will build the core of Algebra's runtime safety system — the software layer that sits between a robot's policy and its actuators and keeps every action within certified safe limits. You will work close to the metal and close to the math, and your decisions will shape the product and the codebase for years.

What you will do

  • Design and build the safety SDK that wraps learned and classical policies in real time
  • Integrate the safety layer into customer robot stacks — humanoids, arms, and mobile platforms
  • Meet hard real-time performance budgets inside the control loop
  • Build the simulation and hardware test harnesses we trust our deployments on
  • Help set the engineering culture, tooling, and architecture from day one

What we are looking for

  • Strong software engineering in C++, Rust, and/or Python
  • Experience with robotics, controls, or real-time and embedded systems
  • Comfort owning ambiguous problems end to end
  • A high bar for correctness — you care that it actually works

Nice to have

  • ROS or ROS 2, real-time Linux, or microcontroller experience
  • A background in control theory, optimization, or reinforcement learning
  • Prior early-stage, zero-to-one experience

Compensation & benefits

  • $120,000 – $160,000 base salary, depending on experience
  • Meaningful founding equity
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Flexible paid time off
